Information Technology

SanDisk believes in efficient use of both Information Technology (IT) and natural resources to empower the business. A responsible and effective technology company relies upon a mix of people, process and technology to ensure business goals are aligned with green initiatives. The key to "Green IT" is not only technology selection and architecture, but how employees use technology in the enterprise. Efforts taken by SanDisk in this area include:

Data Center:

  • Improving efficiency of data center cooling through airflow management techniques
  • Implementing energy-efficient lighting and exploring innovations in the use of outside air cooling and alternative energy sources
  • Driving virtualization and consolidation of older infrastructure with a newer, denser and more energy efficient equipment
  • Leveraging new storage management approaches and technologies to reduce energy consumption and the need for fewer power hungry disk drives and fewer backup tapes (less e-waste)

Employee Computing:

  • Establishing global equipment standards that meet or exceed Energy Star requirements.
  • Standardizing on laptops and LCD monitors instead of desktops PC's and CRT monitors to reduce power consumption.
  • Leveraging desktop power management and thin client technologies for ongoing reduction in power consumption
  • Consolidating and using more efficient printers, duplex printing and recycled toners

Reducing Travel Through Technology:

  • By encouraging the use of video conference units installed across our global offices when practical, with the goal of lowering our carbon footprint through reduction of air and car travel.
  • Use of web conferencing, email and instant messaging technology to enable employees around the world to share documents, presentations and communicate (1-1 or in groups) in real-time from their systems; reducing the need for travel.
